FIRST® LEGO® League
A SPIKE Essential workout!
Remember in our training how you loved getting creative and having fun building and coding an amazing fairground ride? You designed and built using the elements in your SPIKE Essential set then brought your ride to life with code?
Why don’t you try out this open and creative activity with your own pupils to get them familiar with the hardware and software in the SPIKE Essential set?
TUTORIAL 1 – Motors and LEDs
A little reminder of how to get the motor spinning and the lights flashing! Don’t forget to add in some cool sounds…
TUTORIAL 2 – Sensors
A little reminder of how to get your creations responding to sensors – in this case the colour sensor.
START THE SESSIONS
We keep saying that this guide is really important – because it is! Work your way through each session adapting the approach to meet the needs of your pupils. Remember you can be flexible with both content and timings.
Remember that the sessions all follow the same structure:
- Introduction (10 minutes)
- Task 1 (20 minutes)
- Task 2 (20 minutes)
- Wrap Up (10 minutes) Tidy up quickly so you have more time to share!
THE FIRST LEGO LEAGUE UNIT IN THE SPIKE ESSENTIAL APP
The Team Meeting Guide and the Engineering Notebook both reference activities that are in the SPIKE Essential App. This short video shows you exactly what they are and where they are.
