FIRST® LEGO® League: CITY SHAPER

HERE WE ARE FOCUSING ON THE ROBOT GAME!
We are really excited about this year’s Challenge – City Shaper. Remember, there is more to FIRST LEGO LEAGUE than the Robot Game. The competition is made up of:
– Robot Game
– Robot Design
– Innovation Project
– Core Values
Although we are going to focus on the Robot Game, you can see how things fit together with this great FIRST LEGO LEAGUE video with Lowri and Andy. FIRST LEGO LEAGUE have a great new website!
USING YOUR HAND TO DO THE MISSIONS! !
These are great videos to help you understand the Missions – all you need is your hand – cool! Go to the playlist on YouTube.
THE WEBINARS
We are doing a series of Webinars. They are a great opportunity to ask questions and learn new skills as Coaches. They won’t provide the solutions to Missions (that is for the team to work out) but we can help get you confident with using Mindstorms. #LEGOconfidence
DATES AND RECORDING LINKS (when available)
Thanks to all those people that logged on. More dates coming soon – including ‘Before School – Q&A’ sessions.
GETTING STARTED WITH THE ROBOT GAME
Here at Raising Robots, we love to keep things simple – that is why we love this video with Lowri and Andy. Don’t go into the Robot Game thinking that you have to do everything – pick and choose! Build up your #LEGOconfidence
This video is a great way of getting a feel for things and can help you get started – so watch it!
At this point let’s focus on three things:
– Building a robot and getting it moving
– Getting a robot to grab and lift
– Adding a sensor – the colour sensor

A GREAT QUICK-BUILD ROBOT…
Rather than looking at the Mat and all of its amazing Missions, put it to one side – build a robot that can move around! Once it is moving, you can then put it to work!

GRAB AND LIFT
The Medium Motor means that you can develop your robot into one that can lift and grab objects. Once you have your robot lifting and grabbing, there we be many more Missions you can attempt!

COLOUR SENSOR
Give your robot a mind of it’s own – attach a sensor. We love the colour sensor. Here is how to get started with it…
