SPIKE Prime
If you currently use App 2 (Legacy App)

If you currently use SPIKE Prime, you are probably using the SPIKE App 2. This is now called the SPIKE Legacy App as it has been replaced by the SPIKE App 3.
You can download the SPIKE App 3 or use the web App (you need to use a Chrome browser) and then use it with SPIKE Prime. It will most likely ask you to update the firmware on the SPIKE Prime hub.
You will then have two Apps on your devices:

SPIKE App 2
(Legacy App)

SPIKE App 3
(New App)
When you no longer need access to the Legacy App, it is probably a good idea to delete it – but remember that means you won’t be able to access any of the projects you created with it.
If you install the SPIKE App 3 or use the web App…
Be aware:
- Projects written in the SPIKE App 2 (Legacy App) currently will NOT work on SPIKE App 3. So if you are in the middle of projects or competitions, stick with SPIKE App 2 (Legacy App)
- There is currently no option to code in Python using the SPIKE App 3 (it will be coming later in 2023). So if you are doing Python coding – stick with the SPIKE App 2 (Legacy App)
- There have been some changes to the Icon Blocks and Word Blocks
- IMPORTANT: Your LEGO SPIKE Hub will update its firmware when you connect it to the SPIKE App 3. You will know it is an updated SPIKE Hub as the Power Button will shine green on power up. Once it is updated, you won’t be able to use it with SPIKE App 2 (Legacy App).
Enjoy:
- Faster connection to the SPIKE Prime Hub
- Wireless connection on all platforms
- Improved firmware upgrade for SPIKE Prime
- Increased predictability of the model movement
- Support for bigger user programs
- Simplified motor and movement blocks
SPIKE Prime
If you a new user of SPIKE Prime, you will use SPIKE App 3.
