We had a fantastic day working with staff and students at Burton and South Derbyshire College’s Open Day in mid January. This college is a great place to learn and now they have added an extra dimension with the installation of a LEGO Education Innovation Studio which Raising Robots has supported developing. There is additional ‘buzz’ as BSDC students have played a hands-on role in developing the room. Just look at these cool LEGO tables!
The LEGO Education Innovation Studio is the result of a fantastic transformation of an old Science laboratory – it is now a beautifully designed, vibrant, creative space which is fully equipped with LEGO Education Mindstorms EV3, WeDo 2.0 and Simple & Powered Machines! We had a fantastic day training staff and students who got hands-on, developing beautiful and innovative creations and as LEGO Certified Trainers, John and Colin had great fun introducing quick builds and key programming skills during the day. Robot racing was the high point for everyone – what a competition … and what skills! Great times!
Staff and students alike are excited about the opportunities the LEIS and the new resources will provide in terms of skill building, team building, problem solving and FUN! BSDC plan to use their fabulous LEIS for both out-reach projects and enrichment opportunities for students studying at the college – exciting months lie ahead!
Soon, there will be more robot building, more robot racing, confident learners taking risks, collaborating and developing their programming skills too! A fantastic element of the ‘BSDC Skills Promise’!
